Hello friends of Fresh Food Weekly, I’m super excited to announce that the list of items for the #Thanksgiving meal box is out! We will be delivering Thanksgiving meal boxes to 75 low-income families in #Barrie on Thursday, October 6th, 2022. As always, I would like to give a big thank you to all our wonderful donors and food suppliers. Without all of you, these families wouldn’t be getting a Turkey dinner this Thanksgiving. 🙏 I’m absolutely thrilled to be offering our program recipients the option of either a Turkey or a ham, cranberry sauce and stove top stuffing mix (from Joe’s No Frills and Zehrs), carrots and onions (from Dominion Farm Produce Ltd), beets (from Springh Farms), potatoes, garlic, pepper squash, butternut squash, pie pumpkins, and cucumbers (from Harris Farm Markets), milk (from Costco), celery, romaine lettuce and leaf lettuce (from Gaetano Green Acre Farms), apples (from Hewgill Orchards), a wedge of mild Gouda cheese (from Continental Specialties, Du…

Hey again, This afternoon I would like to tell you about another Fresh Food Weekly recipient who is actually the exact same age as me. As always, her story is really upsetting because it highlights an array of problems in “the system”. Firstly, this woman has a diagnosis for a crippling disease with no cure and it’s going to take at least three years for her to get any kind of financial aid because three years is how long it takes to “process” her application. Secondly, when she applied to get financial aid, one of the Barrie case workers was condescending to her. And thirdly, even if she does get approved for ODSP in 2025, she’ll be lucky to get even $900/month… and I know this because it’s what many others have shown me. This is her story… “I’ve recently been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) and I’m only 33-years-old,” the Barrie woman told me. Hey Barrie, My neighbors had a fire thats destroyed most of her backyard furniture. There isn't enough items to justify renting a bin. There's only a trailer full or maybe 2 loads in the back of a truck that need to go to the dump. As of late I have noticed that a lot of motorcycles have been parked on the side

As of late I have noticed that a lot of motorcycles have been parked on the sidewalks and at Fred Grant Square in the evenings. Wonder why the City and our police allow this. Also a lot of vehicles stop for long periods of time with their four ways going blocking traffic. This needs to be address and whom ever is running for council should think of this in their platforms to clean up downtown. Source
