Barrie planning staff is proposing to allow four-story apartment buildings on any residential street in the city. This will cut you out of the planning process. No other City in Ontario is doing what is proposed by planning staff in Barrie.
There are many good places for low rise apartments in Barrie. And there many examples of where they fit in well. We need this form of housing.
However, allowing them anywhere without public input is wrong. This means the decisions about growth and change on your street will be made by developers rather than your elected Council.
These images show examples of four storey apartments on residential streets in Barrie. Some look ok. But whether you agree with this form of building or not – don’t you think you should have a voice?
The public meeting for this by-law is being held this Thursday, November 14 at 6 o’clock in the Council chambers. If you have any concerns, come to the meeting and contact your Ward councillor to make sure your voice is heard.
